A bitter alterative herb that stimulates the immune system, promotes healing and has antiviral and antibacterial effects. Echinacea purpurea is one of several species and is used to treat wounds. The generic name "Echinacea" comes from the Greek word "echinos" meaning "hedgewhog" and refers to the prickly scales of the flowers' central cone.
